Aesthetics

Smile Design

Smile design is an aesthetic treatment plan that brings the colour, shape and size of your teeth into harmony with your face. At our practice in Konyaaltı, Antalya, we look at your facial features, lip line and smile line together and plan the smile that suits you best. Depending on the plan, veneers, zirconium crowns, teeth whitening or gum contouring can be used alone or in combination.

Personalised Planning

Good smile design looks at the whole face, not just the teeth. We study how your lips move, how much gum shows when you smile and how your teeth relate to your face. Before we finish, we let you see your new smile with a trial so you know what to expect.

The Smile Design Process

Photographs of your face and smile are taken.
A digital impression of your teeth is taken with the iTero intraoral scanner.
Your facial proportions are analysed on a computer.
A smile design tailored to you is prepared.
We review your new smile together at a trial before finishing.

We describe the digital stage of planning in detail on our digital smile design page.

Treatments Used in Smile Design

Smile design is not a single procedure but a plan made up of treatments combined according to your needs. The plan may include one or more of the following:

How We Achieve a Natural Look

Our aim is not to give everyone the same white teeth, but to create a natural, balanced smile that suits your face. So we choose the colour of the teeth according to your skin tone and the whites of your eyes, and their length and width according to your facial proportions. Teeth that are too white or too bulky give the face an artificial look. We also consider the midline of the teeth, how they fit with your lip line and a shape that suits your age as part of the plan.

The more detailed the planning, the more predictable the result. We follow the same approach when smile design is combined with teeth whitening, veneers, zirconium crowns or implant treatment, so you end up with a natural smile you feel comfortable with.

Will My Teeth Be Filed Down a Lot?

How much tooth is reduced depends on the treatment chosen. With veneers, usually only a very thin layer is removed from the front surface of the tooth, and in some cases they can be placed with no reduction at all. Crowns cover the whole tooth, so more reduction is needed. We plan treatment with the option that protects your teeth as much as possible.

Aftercare

  • Brush your teeth twice a day and use floss or an interdental brush.
  • Avoid biting hard objects such as nutshells, pens or ice.
  • If you grind your teeth, wear the night guard we make for you regularly.
  • Come for a check-up at least once a year.

Smile Design: Frequently Asked Questions

Can’t find your answer? Call us or message us on WhatsApp.

Ask on WhatsApp
Who is smile design suitable for?

It suits anyone who is unhappy with the colour, shape or alignment of their teeth and would like a more balanced smile. We decide on the right treatment together at the examination.

How long does treatment take?

Planning is completed quickly. The total time depends on the treatments involved, and veneers and crowns are usually completed in a few sessions.

How is the trial done?

Your new teeth are tried in before they are finished. This lets you see the result as close to finished as possible in the mirror and in photos, and we adjust anything you would like to change before they are completed.

Will the result look natural?

Because colour, length and shape are chosen for your face and checked in advance with a trial, the result looks natural. We specifically avoid teeth that are too white or too bulky.

How long do veneers last?

Porcelain and E-max veneers can be used for many years with proper care and regular check-ups. Composite veneers may discolour over time and may need polishing or renewal at intervals.

Will my teeth be sensitive after treatment?

There may be mild sensitivity to hot and cold in the first few days. This usually settles on its own quickly.

What is the difference between smile design and digital smile design?

Smile design covers all the treatments used for your new smile. Digital smile design is the stage of this plan prepared on a computer with iTero scans and photographs.

What if I have decay or gum problems?

Decay, gum inflammation and other health problems are treated first. Aesthetic treatments last longer when they are placed on a healthy mouth.
