What should I do after a wisdom tooth extraction?
After the extraction, bite on the gauze for about half an hour. On the first day, avoid hot food and drinks, smoking and drinking through a straw so the blood clot stays in place. We recommend not rinsing your mouth for the first 24 hours and applying a cold pack to your cheek on and off in the first hours to reduce swelling. Taking your medication regularly and coming to your check-up speeds up healing.
How many stages does implant treatment have?
Implant treatment is usually completed in two main stages. In the first, after the examination, digital scan and 3D planning, the implant is placed in the jawbone. Depending on the procedures done, the bone usually needs 2–6 months to fuse with the implant. In the second stage, an impression is taken and the permanent tooth is fitted on the implant. If there is not enough bone, a bone graft beforehand may extend the process a little.
What causes teeth grinding and how is it treated?
Teeth grinding (bruxism) is mostly linked to stress, a busy pace of life and disturbed sleep, and usually happens at night without you noticing. Jaw and temple pain in the morning, worn teeth and sensitivity are the most common signs. The priority in treatment is protecting the teeth. A custom night guard protects the teeth from wear, while treatment of the chewing muscles relaxes overworked jaw muscles. We decide together at the examination which is right for you.
Does teeth whitening damage the teeth?
Whitening done under a dentist’s supervision at the right concentration does not permanently damage the tooth. There may be temporary sensitivity for a few days afterwards, which passes on its own. Any decay or gum problems are treated before whitening. Fillings, crowns and veneers do not change colour with whitening, so we take this into account in the plan.
